Muzzle Brake Ilyin

Gun firing always comes with such unpleasant aspect as recoil. Because of it barrel of firing gun moves up and aside, what’s known as muzzle rise. Movement amplitude is not very big, but enough to disturb sighting line and effect on following shot accuracy. 

    To reduce this effect shooters use special device installed on gun muzzle end – muzzle brake. Such device redirects a portion of propellant gases coming out from the muzzle to reduce muzzle rise and recoil. Properly designed muzzle breaks capable to reduce recoil by 25 to 75%.

Muzzle Brake Ilyin design features

This muzzle brake designed for “Vepr” and “Saiga” 12 gauge smooth-bore carbines. With a special adapter also can be used on “Bekas” type shotguns.

This is positive-passive muzzle brake. The design feature of this brake is that one portion of gases redirects in opposite to shoot direction and another portion – in vertical direction. This implemented by two chambers design.

In the first positive chamber  there are four cutouts – side vents, which redirect a portion of propellant gases, aside and back, at an acute angle to barrel axis. This creates thrust, reducing recoil.

In the second open from the top chamber there are two baffles and three vents on the right side, redirecting gases in a direction orthogonal to shoot.

Brake supplied with retaining nut to fasten it on threaded barrels. Adapters for other guns sold separately. 

Muzzle break weights 180 g with length 135 mm and width 40 mm. Brake installations will change shotgun behavior, so before take in to the game, it will be better to practice at the range.

How does muzzle brake Ilyin work

During firing propelling gases enters in the first chamber where a portion of them redirects aside and reduce recoil longitudinally. In second chamber gases flow splits in two directions: upward and to the right. Muzzle brake installation should precise regarding to its direction. Open part should be completely perpendicular barrel axis, side vents should look to the right. Gases redirected by a second chamber will reduce muzzle rise upward and to the right what is typical for shotguns.
